Please note that legislative contact is, by default, constituency based. In order to contact a particular legislator, your supporter will have to enter an address in their district. Please see this article for more information on that. |
The Targets page allows you to select which officials (or target(s)) will receive advocacy messages from your contacts. Our targeting system allows you to pinpoint any combination of elected officials at any level.
Geography
If you have a NationVoice system that includes all the states and the federal government, the first option allows you to specify whether the campaign is national-level or particular to certain states. You can select multiple states if you wish.
Targets
Next, choose the officials, agencies, or media outlets you want your supporters to contact.
The dropdown menus on the left have elected officials at (depending on your package level) the federal, state, and even local level. The dropdown menus on the right contain other options.
- Custom targets are non-elected officials you enter yourself and a useful for targets like the heads of state-level agencies.
- Agency contacts are the heads of federal-level agencies such as the Department of Education.
- Regulations.gov connects your supports with comment forms posted to proposed regulations from a variety of regulatory agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency. Note - A much higher percentage of your supporters' comments will be publicly posted if you require them to write their own comments.
Scope
You will now need to choose the scope of the targeting. These options pare down the groups selected above so that you have granular control over who exactly from the targets section you want your supporters to contact. The result can be as simple as an entire chamber or as specific as you like. This article will walk you through some of the more common complex targeting scenarios.
There are five options available to you, and you may select any combination:
- All targets from the chambers selected above: All selected officials
- Members of specified committee(s): Identify the committee(s) from a dropdown on the following page.
- Individuals or custom groups of officials: Identify which individuals you want to target on the following page. Just click the “Add Targets” option and a pop-up will appear. Select the target group from the dropdown and all available targets will be displayed. Move the targets you want from the “Individual available” box to the “Individuals selected” box and save your selections.
- Bill sponsorship or voting status: Specify the bill sponsorship or voting status by selecting the bill from a dropdown on the following page. Then decide how you want to group the targets, based on sponsorship or based on votes for that particular bill.
- Allow contact based on key contact relationships: Officials with personal relationships to your contacts
