How do I use the text editor?

This article will show you how to do the following:

Clear Formatting from Pasted Content

The editor supports improved handling of pasting in content from Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc. When you paste in content from those outside sources, it automatically keeps: the text itself, text colors, any hyperlinks, any images, and bold/italic/underline. Other formatting will be stripped in order to keep the pasted content as clean as possible. You can then simply remake any formatting changes you need via the toolbar at the top of the editor.

Change Font Sizes

Highlight the text you wish to make larger or smaller; then click on either the font style control shown below, circled in red, or the font size control shown below, circled in green.

The font style control will allow you to change the size of the selected font from the default to heading 1, 2, or 3. The font size control will allow you to set a specific font size in pixels.

If you would like to change the default font, please contact vvsupport@fiscalnote.com. We would be happy to adjust the default font and / or size for you.

Add Images

Place your cursor in the content area where you want your image to appear and click the "insert image or file" icon in the toolbar.

You will see a popup with the images currently in your server. To add a new image, click the "upload" icon at the top-left corner.

Once you (have it uploaded and) find the image you want, you can add them image either by double clicking on it or clicking on it once and then clicking the X button at the top-left corner.

Your image will appear in the content area, on the line where your cursor had been placed.

Edit Images

Once your image is inserted (see instructions above), you can click on the image to see the editing controls.

  • To adjust the size, click on any of the boxes at the corners (circled in green below) and drag them until you get the size you want. Note that the size will be shown as a percentage of the full width of the content area, not in pixels.
  • To add a caption, click into the caption box (circled in yellow below) and type the desired text.
  • To adjust the alignment, click the left, center, or right alignment icons (circled in red below).
  • To add text that will be shown only to users who do not display images, click the alt text icon (circled in purple below).

Embed Files

Rather than sending an attachment, you can embed a text file or pdf into the text of your broadcast. This helps avoid spam filters and is a little more obvious than an attachment at the bottom of the email. To embed a file just follow the steps below:

Type the text you want to link to the pdf or doc into the text editor. Highlight the desired text and then click the "insert image or file" icon in the toolbar.

embed_1.png

You will see another pop-up that shows the currently uploaded files / images in your server. Make sure you click "files" to the left.

If the file you want to embed is in the main window, double click it. If not, click the "Upload" button in the top-left corner and follow the prompts to choose the file's location from your computer. When you have, it will be added to the list in your server. Double click it.

The end result will appear like a normal link, but users who click it will see the file you embedded appear in a new tab in the browser.

Check Spelling and Grammar

We have added a much easier to use spelling and grammar checker. As you type, the editor will automatically detect misspelled words and even grammatical issues. Any issues will be indicated by an underline and number floating at the bottom right of the editor. That number denotes how many spelling and/or grammar mistakes exist in your content. When you click on any one, you will see the option to either change or ignore it. When you click on any error, you will see the option to change it, ignore it, or (in the case of a spelling issue) add it to your dictionary.

Spacing Issue while copy paste

Click on the paragraph where it begins, then press the delete button. After that, press CTRL+SHIFT+BACKSPACE if you are using Windows, or press COMMAND+SHIFT+RETURN if you are using a Mac.

Note- As reflected in the image, it was before the correction. When you follow the above steps, you will be able to adjust the spacing issue.

Directly Edit the Source Code

We, unfortunately, had to remove the "source" button to edit the HTML of your content in the new editor for security reasons. Removing the option to edit the source directly helps keep your action center safe and secure. We looked into a number of alternatives to keep this feature before we made this update live, but found none that met our standards for security and quality.

If you have reasons you would like that ability back, please email them to vvsupport@fiscalnote.com. We will pass those along to the Product Team.
