Our new Election Center provides organizations and their advocates with a robust, centralized resource for critical voter and legislative information. This single page is designed to empower advocates by helping them understand:
- Representation: Who currently represents them, including optional data on their support (or lack thereof) for key issues via a voting/sponsorship scorecard.
- Candidates: Who is running for office in their district.
- Voting Logistics: Where to vote, how to register, and where to find official state resources.
- Custom Messaging: Any additional information or specific calls to action added by your organization via a custom text area.
Key Features and Advocate Experience
The Election Center centralizes essential data and features onto one easy-to-use page, providing a seamless experience for your advocates.
Access & Seamless Login
- Users "log in" by entering their physical address to ensure the information displayed is specific to their state and location.
- If an advocate has previously logged into the Action Center, the system utilizes a cookie to 'remember' and pre-fill their Home Address.
- Users can easily switch between their home and business addresses to view representatives relevant to each location. The system remembers both addresses separately, eliminating the need to re-enter information when switching.
Actionable Content
Once logged in, advocates have immediate access to:
- Upcoming Election Dates: View Federal and State election dates relevant to their area.
- Elected Officials Directory: Direct access to our elected official directory to contact officials or view additional details, including their voting/sponsorship scorecard.
- Candidate Directory: Access the candidate directory to see who is running for office (this information appears after the filing deadline has passed).
Official Voting Resources
Detailed links guide advocates to official state resources for all key voting actions:
- Register to Vote: Links to the official state site for online voter registration in most states. For states without online registration, links are provided to the vote.gov site for filling out the national voter registration form.
- Find Your Polling Location: Links directly to the official state site for locating their assigned polling place.
- Additional Voting Resources: Links to the official state site for information on absentee ballot rules, early voting, and other state-specific procedures.
Accessibility and Customization
- Accessibility & Language: The new Election Center is fully WCAG 2.1 compliant and can be viewed in English or Spanish without needing support to enable special settings.
- Client Customization: Organizations can tailor the page to fit their brand and campaign needs:
- Custom Image: Clients can customize the image displayed next to elected officials and candidates via the Action Center settings control panel.
- Custom Rich-Text Area: Clients can add a custom rich-text area (displayed between upcoming election dates and voting resources). This area can be used for election watch parties, specific handouts, flyers, campaign links, or any other critical advocate information.
How does an organization access the new election center?
- On the Home page of the action center, we have modified the existing “Find Officials” widget to instead point advocates to the new election center since they can also find their elected officials through here. That widget now says “View Your Election Center” and includes the same prompt to enter your address and proceed.
- We've also added a plugin embed option to Action Center settings to embed just the election center on a page.
