The Petitions tool allows your supporters to add their electronic signatures in support of a message or pledge that you create. Signing the petition is not limited by the supporter’s constituency, and you maintain full control over those to whom the petition is delivered and when that happens.
Click the Advocacy menu, click on Petitions, then select the New Petition icon at the top right of the page. You will be brought to the Options page. These options all work like they do in other parts of the VoterVoice system.
- The name of the petition is only visible to you, so enter whatever you need to identify it later.
- The priority level can either be “normal” or “spotlight” (which gives you a banner area and the option to add an image behind the title).
- The time frame determines how long the petition will stay active on your Action Center.
- Public petitions are discoverable, whereas private petitions can only be accessed through a direct link.
On the second page, Alert, you will be prompted to create an action alert for the petition. This is your message to your members about why they should add their electronic signatures. Make sure that your message is clear, professional, and relatively brief.
The third page, Petition, is where you enter in the text of the petition itself. This is the message that your users will sign in support of.
The fourth page, Confirmation, allows you to customize the text of the confirmation page a user will see upon signing the petition. You can also customize the confirmation email that is sent out immediately afterward. To do so, just click the Customize links on the right side of the page to pull up the text editor. When you are done, click Continue.
After enough time has passed, you can pull a petition report to get a pdf of the petition text and signers that you can then send to whomever needs to receive it.
