The scorecard allows you to show your supporters how their elected officials (and others) voted on certain issues important to your organization. VoterVoice calculates a percentage score for each official based on 1) how often they vote with your association and 2) the proportionate weight of those bills according to your settings. The scorecard lists specific bills, how the officials voted on each bill, and various details that you can edit.
Scoring an Action
Click the Legislation menu and then select Scorecard. You will then be taken to the Scorecard Actions tab. This page organizes all the bill actions (votes) you have entered into your system by chamber and session.
If you are simply editing a previously scored action, just click on the name and edit accordingly. If, however, you are entering a new bill, click “new action” at the top-right corner of the page. That will bring you to a page where you search for the pertinent bill.
Once you select the bill, you will have an option to score officials based either on a roll call vote or on (co)sponsorship.
VoterVoice imports roll call votes and sponsorship data for the bills in question. If you need to score an action that does not appear in the listing (such as event attendance or whether or not they signed a dear colleague letter), you will need to create a custom action that allows you to select the various legislators’ positions yourself.
Once you’ve selected the bill action, you will also be able to enter a custom title for the action and a custom explanation for your supporters. When you’re done, continue to the next page.
The Votes page will show you the whether the motion passed or failed, the total number of votes in each category (for, against, etc…), and the specific vote of each legislator. Legislators for whom no vote is found are listed at the top in red. You can add a vote for them, or you can leave their entries blank.
Finally one the Votes page, you will need to select your association’s position on the bill. This will allow VoterVoice to determine if a vote for the bill’s passage should help or harm the overall scores of the officials.
Continue forward from there, and you’re done! When you are ready to display the actions you have scored, you can do that through the Scorecard Layout tool.
