Most advocacy campaigns ask your supporters to submit emails to their legislators, but VoterVoice also allows them to tweet and place phone calls as well. You can enable that ability for any new or existing campaign by following the steps below.
Click on the Advocacy menu and choose Campaigns. Click on the name of an existing campaign and continue forward to the Sample Message section of the editor. If you are creating a new campaign, you can do this once you get to the Sample Message page.
One the Sample Message page of the campaign editor, you will see a series of options under “mode of communication.” Click the checkbox next to Tweet or Phone to set that option up for your supporters.
X (formerly Twitter), Messages may be sent as either replies or mentions.
- Reply - visible only to the sender, recipient, and other people who follow them both
- Mention - visible to the sender, recipient, and other people who follow either of them
When you continue to the next page, you will provide a suggested tweet (the legislators’ handles will be added automatically) and/or a phone script. The phone script will appear in a pop-up with the legislator’s direct number and some self-reporting questions so your users can let you know how things went. If a user begins to answer the self-reporting questions, they will not be able to submit their response until they finish answering.
Phone call and X (formerly Twitter) actions will both appear in the Advocacy Report alongside any emails, webforms, or faxes.
When the advocate takes action, previously they needed to authorize VoterVoice to post on their behalf, now they will be taken directly to X to complete their post.
The advocate will be taken out of VoterVoice, to X, to complete their post, where the user experience will happen within that separate platform.
Our reporting will include the fact that the advocate clicked 'Post' on our platform, but we will no longer be able to tell for sure whether the advocate followed through and clicked "Post" within the X interface.
We recommend including hashtags in your pre-written X posts to make it easier to track the activity tied to your campaigns within the X platform.
If you have any questions, please reach out to VoterVoice support.
