Our new Election Center provides organizations and their advocates a centralized resource to understand:
-Who represents them, optionally did those officials support the issues they care about or not
-Who is running for office who could represent them
-Where to go to vote, how do they register to vote, where can they find additional voter resources
-Anything else you would like to add via a custom text area.
Key Features
With the Election Center, we’ve taken a variety of existing data & features and centralized them to one easy to use and understand page. We’re adding new ways for organizations to customize this page and make it their own.
Logging in
Users “log in” with their physical address to view information specific to their state/location. If they have previously been logged into the action center through other pages, we will utilize that cookie to ‘remember’ them via their Home Address on their user record.
Voting Resources, Officials, Candidates
Once logged in, advocates can see:
-Upcoming Federal and State election dates (when is the next election in their area)
-Voting resources
Links to the official state site for online voter registration in most states. For those without online voter registration, links to the vote.gov site for filling out the national voter registration form.
Find your polling location
Links to the official state site for finding your polling location
Additional voting resources (absentee ballot rules, early voting, etc.)
Links to the official state site for additional resources on voting information.
-Elected officials
Takes the advocate to our elected official directory where advocates can contact officials directly or view additional information about them, including their voting/sponsorship scorecard.
-Candidates
Takes the advocate to our candidate directory where advocates can see their candidates running for office.
Accessibility, Language
The new election center is fully WCAG 2.1 compliant and will be viewable in English or Spanish without support needing to enable any special settings.
Customization
First, clients can customize the image next to elected officials and candidates. In the Action Center settings control panel, they can swap out the image.
Second, clients can add a custom rich-text area (displays between upcoming election dates and voting resources) where they can add anything they’d like. Clients could use this to add in, for example, information about election watch parties, specific handouts or flyers for their organization, links to important campaigns they’re running, or anything else they’d like their advocates to know before they go to vote.
How does an organization access the new election center?
On the Home page of the action center, we have modified the existing “Find Officials” widget to instead point advocates to the new election center since they can also find their elected officials through here. That widget now says “View Your Election Center” and includes the same prompt to enter your address and proceed.
We’ve also added a plugin embed option to Action Center settings to embed just the election center on a page.
